Photographs from Allen and Benner Islands, Maine. Part of my work at Colby College Museum of Art’s presentation of By Design: The Worlds of Betsy James Wyeth which explores the multilayered sites of the islands, whose landscapes were shaped extensively by Betsy James Wyeth (1921–2020).
By Design is the first exhibition to examine Wyeth’s wide-ranging practice as a designer of complex environments. Presented simultaneously at the three museums, each with site-specific emphases: the Brandywine Museum of Art, Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania; the Colby College Museum of Art, Waterville, Maine; and the Farnsworth Art Museum, Rockland, Maine, in association with the Wyeth Foundation of American Art.
